Supporting marketers in professional services firms

In professional practices, I’ve found more often than not that the person responsible for marketing isn’t trained or qualified in marketing at all.  It’s something that they might have started at some point, and the beast has grown and fallen within their remit. 

Nine times out of ten, they do a fine job.  But with support, mentoring, direction and someone with experience to talk to, they do an outstanding job!.  And this is where I come in. 

Via Zoom, Skype telephone or in person, I’ll work with your appointed marketer twice monthly to support, advise and challenge where necessary – giving them the opportunity to grow and your firm an increased likelihood of marketing success. 

We don’t always know what we think we know

For several years I was the course tutor on the Marketing Planning for the Chartered Institute of Marketing Diploma at the University of Newport, as it was then known.

At the beginning of the first lecture, I asked the 25 marketing professionals in front of me who knew how to write a strategic marketing plan. All but two raised their hands in the air.

At the end of that 3-hour lecture and after outlining the 12-week course dedicated to strategic marketing planning, I asked them again if they knew how to write a marketing plan.  They sat there with white faces and no hands were raised.

Many of us think we know what and how powerful planned and strategic marketing is.  But few actually do.
